As already reported before, I only realized how big Australia is when we were traveling there. Australia has an area of approximately 7.6 million km2. This makes it the sixth largest country in the world. But Australia is sparsely populated, with a population of just 25.8 million, most of whom live in the big cities. The capital of Australia is Canberra and not Sydney as most people assume. However, Sydney is the biggest city in Australia. We were in Sydney, it's just adorable and has an incredible amount of green space, which I think is simply beautiful. So why isn't Sydney the capital. Sydney and Melborn both wanted to be capitals and so they decided to find the golden Point in the middle and made Canberra the capital.

Wow, well I have to say that I have never seen so many beautiful birds as in Australia. Birds that we here in Europe only know from the zoo or cage live, here in the wild as it should be. But also many insects, reptiles and amphibians are unique here. It is worrying that there are more venomous than non-venomous snakes in Australia. Because there are also plenty of spiders and scorpions, many people keep antidotes in the fridge that as if you would be bitten you wouldn't make it to the nearest hospital. Scare, no, stay on the right side of the road and stick to the rules, you don't work in the field or in the jungle. That's why there are 755 national parks and 12 World Heritage sites in Australia.
Aborigine
Before Europeans arrived in Australia, Aboriginal people had lived on the continent for at least 50,000 years. Originally, Northern Australia was linked to New Guinea and there were cultural exchanges between the countries. Approx. 2200 BC immigrants came from the Indian subcontinent and even if one does not know exactly, the Dingos probably came to Australia at that time. The Dingo is the Australian wild dog that lives independently from humans.
Australia was only discovered in the 17th century by the Dutchman Willem Jansz (1606). The southern tip became New Holland in 1644. Britain later used the Sydney area as a penal colony and shipped the convicts here (1788-1868). Another penal colony was established near Brisbane in 1824.
In 1851 gold was found near Melbourne and a gold rush broke out and shaped the history of Australia. People no longer came to Australia as a punishment but at their own request.
Australia became independent on January 1, 1901.
Most Australians are Christians but a large proportion, around 30%, are non-denominational.
Right by plane! Australia has a dense flight network. There are 400 airport. Here I am listing the most important ones with their associated IATA code so that you can make your flight reservation easier.
In Australia it makes sense to inquire about some parts by car or, even better, by camper. Of course, please don't forget that left-hand traffic applies in Australia. Don't forget the spare canister either, hahahaha
